Theater and society. The contribution of spiritual Thessaloniki to the establishment of the National Theatre of Northern Greece

The book presents the social, political, cultural and ideological circumastances during the 1950s, which will lead to the establishment of the National Theatre of Northern Greece (1961). Starting from the ideology of the city, the book observes the formation and functioning of spiritual Thessaloniki as a "field" (according to Pierre Bourdieu's view), which, with the "Techi" Macedonian Art Society at the forefront, will promote the demand for a state theatre in the city. In this climate, the director Kyriazis Haratsaris, who for many should be the first artistic director of the NTNG, will emerge as a central figure.
